What this word unscrambler does

Type the letters on your rack and it finds every valid word you can build from them, grouped by length with the Scrabble score on each tile. It handles a full fifteen-letter rack instantly, so there is no reason to enter only part of what you are holding.

It is built for Scrabble and Words with Friends, but it works for any game that asks you to make words from a jumble of letters, including anagram puzzles, Wordle-style guessing games and the letters round of a quiz.

Blank tiles

Use a question mark for a blank. Typing scrab??e treats the two question marks as any letter, which is how you find what a blank is really worth before you commit it. You can use up to two, matching the two blanks in a Scrabble set.

Keeping track of what you have tried

Tap any word to add it to your list. The list appears above and below the results, and the share link underneath it updates every time you tap, so you can send someone the exact set of words you have already played. The small arrow on each tile opens that word's own page, with its meaning, both game scores, its anagrams, the letters that hook onto either end, and the shorter words hiding inside it.

Where the word list comes from

The list is built on ENABLE, a public-domain lexicon of around 173,000 words, with a maintained set of additions on top of it. Those additions cover all 107 two-letter words currently valid in North American play, the Q-without-U words, and the headline entries from the 2014, 2018 and 2022 dictionary updates, so words like QI, ZA, OK, EW and VAX all resolve. Terms removed from tournament play in 2020 are excluded.

That makes it a close match for North American Scrabble and Words with Friends, but it is not the official tournament word list, and it does not include the Collins-only words used in most of the world. If a word is missing or should not be there, tell us and we will look at it.

A word about fair play

These tools are for practice, study, puzzle making and casual games. Using a word finder during a rated or competitive game breaks most games' rules, and that is between you and your opponent. The more useful habit is to run your rack through here after a game and see what you missed, which is how most strong players study.
